PAST OUTREACH PROGRAMS
K-Culture Experience at the Detroit Institute of Arts
ArtLab J and the DIA’s Friends of Asian Arts and Culture came together to host a K-Culture experience.
With food, games, and performances by Prism Kru, Jak, and ArtLab J’s K-pop dance team this was an event you can’t forget. The event included interactive Korean games like Red-light, Green-light and Ddakji Chigi, and samples of Korean culinary treats.
Ferndale Upper Elementary and Creative Thinkers Movers
Our Creative Thinkers and Movers program had the opportunity to go to Ferndale Upper Elementary school. 172 students from 3rd grade got to explore arts, dance, and music with our instructors.
They created “Wing Motion” with each individual wing made by a student, as well as music made by students.
Long Meadow Korean Culture Celebration
Our K-Pop dance team had the opportunity to perform at Long Meadow Elementary School for their 2024 Multicultural Celebration. Our team got students moving and was able to share the joy of K-Pop and Korean culture!
KOREAN CULTURE OUTREACH
Throughout 2023, we have continued to share our Korean Culture Outreach program with the community. We’ve had the opportunity to visit Detroit Public Schools Community District three times to educate students on Korean history through dance and storytelling. We also had the chance to participate in the Palmer Park Art Fair where we shared Korean traditions with the Palmer Park community.
Free Virtual After-School Dance Program with ArtLab J
ArtLab J offers virtual after-school dance programs for Detroit Public School students PreK-Grade 6. It is a great opportunity for children to be active and think creatively from home. Physical activity, creative outlets, and safe socialization are crucial for a child's healthy lifestyle, and we are looking to gauge community interest in the program. We received a Bridging the Gap Rapid Response Grant to make this program free for students.

We are excited to announce we have started up a new program with the Detroit Public Libraries where we offer creative movement classes for the students in their community to attend for free! We are proud for the opportunity to bring the youth of our community a movement program through which they can gain body awareness, creative thinking skills, and a creative outlet for them to freely express themselves.

Move in the cube
ArtLab J and the Detroit Institute of Arts presents,
The "We Remain, Detroit, Move in the Cube" Project is an interactive art experience blending imagery, story telling, and creative movement. Inspired by ArtLab J's latest contemporary work, the walk-in installation provides a unique immersive space for kids to discover and craft a future Detroit, guided by events both past and present

ArtLab J has had the opportunity to provide our Youth Arts Creative Movement Program to more than 10 Detroit Public Library branches FOR FREE this Summer thanks to the grant we received from the Rice Allen Fund!
With your support we can continue offering this program to the libraries for free after the Summer is over!
