Korean Culture Outreach

Throughout 2023, we have continued to share our Korean Culture Outreach program with the community. Joori Jung, of Detroit, is the artistic director and choreographer of ArtLab J. She is also the founder and director of the Detroit Dance City Festival and is the publisher of the annual Moving with Detroit Dance Resource Magazine. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Dance from Kyung Hee University. Ms. Jung is reappointed for a term commencing December 1, 2022, and expiring September 1, 2025.

ArtLab J and Detroit Public Schools Community District have partnered to bring Korean culture and dance to Detroit Public School Students.

For this program, we will introduce Korean culture through dance performances and storytelling; as well as teaching popular K-POP dance. The dance performance will include Korean traditional dance, contemporary dance, and storytelling. Through this program we will benefit the community by educating the students on Korean history as well as providing additional physical activity through dance. Starting at a young age, students should be introduced to all cultures and their history; as opposed to a select few. Through our program we will promote diversity and inclusion not only among the students but throughout the community as a whole.
